I was recently invited to visit the new Aveda Blow Dry Bar located within Fenwick Newcastle. I’ve visited several blow dry bars in London, however they are few and far between up here in Newcastle so I was very excited to see what it was all about.
I’ve always loved the blow dry bar concept as I hate drying my hair, so having a place to visit on the go is definitely something I’m a fan of!
Located on the ground floor of Fenwick, the Aveda Blow Dry Bar boasts large Hollywood mirrors, wooden styling stations and all of the hair styling products you would ever need.
On arrival I was greeted by Anna who would be doing my treatment. After offering me a cup of Aveda’s signature liquorice and peppermint tea – which I would highly recommend trying – I was taken to my seat where Anna and I had a conversation about my hair and whether I had any general concerns with it. Explaining how I find it quite flat (due to the length), she talked me through some tips for adding volume using a range of techniques and products. We then went on to discuss how I would like my hair blow dried and agreed on a style with a bit of volume, movement and curl.
There are several options available when visiting Aveda and the treatment I was having was the Sensory Blow Dry, which lasts around 35 minutes and incorporates a head and shoulder massage, wash and blow dry. Treatment prices start from just £19, with the Sensory priced at £28, which I thought was very reasonable and definitely worth the money.
I have extremely long and thick hair so it’s always a challenge for anyone to blow dry it, however Anna did a fantastic job. After it had been washed and some custom products had applied, she began by creating volume through a technique of rough-drying my roots and using a brush for added lift. Once this had been achieved, she then continued drying the rest of my hair and, once my hair was completely dry, added to the movement that had been created by using a curling iron.
From our initial conversation, Anna was able to use products throughout the treatment that would specifically complement my hair. The three products she used on my hair were:
- Thickening Tonic – This was sprayed on and combed through to enhance thickening.
- Pure Abundance Style Prep – This was used to volumise my hair and used when my hair was slightly damp.
- Shampure Dry Shampoo – Used at the end, this instantly added lift to my roots.
I could really see the difference that the products had made to my hair and took a bottle of each to use at home.
One of my initial thoughts about the location of Aveda was the fact that it was located within the Beauty Hall at Fenwick, which is a new concept for the store, however I felt it worked really well as I was surrounded by other customers who were having their makeup done.
All in all I would highly recommend the Aveda Blow Dry Bar. It’s a fantastic addition to Fenwick and would be a great place to go for maintenance treatments or your hair and makeup done before a night out. Prices start from just £19 and they are also offering a monthly blow dry membership which costs £80 and gives you an unlimited amount of blow dries throughout the month. Gift vouchers are also available if you are looking to treat someone special.
