I have been planning to write a blog post introducing our new arrival for quite a while, however the last ten weeks have been so hectic that I haven’t got around to sharing it until today.
I’d promised to write a follow-up blog to my earlier post where I examined some old wives’ tales to guess the gender of my baby. All of the methods pointed to us having a girl, with just two hinting at a boy, however they were wrong as, after exactly 40 weeks, we welcomed our baby boy, Zachary Irving, to the world on the 27th June 2016 at 1.34pm.
Weighing 7oz 5lb, he made quite a dramatic entrance thanks to a precipitate labour.
For those who haven’t heard of this before (I certainly hadn’t until after I’d delivered, which wasn’t massively helpful), precipitate labour is an extremely fast labour that lasts less than two hours from start to finish.
In less than 45 mintues, I went from driving my car home from our local supermarket, to being ready to deliver and praying for an ambulance to arrive whilst the midwife was on the phone encouraging me to stop pushing (something that is virtually impossible when your baby has decided its on the way). I can honestly say it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life, which wasn’t helped by the fact I had absolutely no pain relief.
Luckily, the paramedics arrived in record time (less than four minutes for the first response car) and, after some debate, the decision was taken to try and get me to hospital instead of delivering Zach at home – a huge relief to my husband who was on-hand with towels and warm water (I’ve never seen him look so pale).
Less than 20 minutes later Zachary was born and we became parents for the first time. Life has been very different since that day and I am absolutely loving being a mum. Zach has been a very easy baby and is coming along so well. I couldn’t imagine life without him. I won’t go into the ins and outs of my labour however if anyone does have any questions please don’t hesitate to comment below or contact me as I’d be happy to answer them.
Now that I’m finally in a good routine I’m planning to start posting regularly again, with a strong focus on lifestyle and fashion-related posts now I’m back down to my normal clothes size and no longer having to wear maternity clothing. I also have several beauty posts lined up, in addition to some focused around Marbella as I’ve recently bought a place out there and will be spending a good amount of time visiting and enjoying the sun.
Thanks again for reading and please visit again soon!
